Training for Professionals
These sessions are delivered online or in-person.
This session aims to gives all staff a better understanding of what it means to be a carer and how they can be supported both in and out the workplace. Topics include:
- Understanding the challenges of combining work and care
- Learning about key carers rights, including workplace rights
- How carers can be supported in the workplace, e.g. good practice for managers and carer employees, carer friendly policies including your own policies
- How carers can be supported outside the workplace – statutory support, 3rd sector, health & wellbeing, practical & financial support
This session will help line managers to identify carers in their team, have the conversation and build knowledge to support carers. Topics include:
- Understanding the business benefits of supporting working carers
- Identifying and engaging with carers in the workplace (including good practice examples)
- Manager support and supporting line managers
- Practical and sustainable ways to help carers stay in work and maintain health and productivity
This course is aimed at people who work with carers and want to help them get their voice heard when dealing with services or people involved with them or the person they care for. It will provide you with an understanding of how to support carers to speak up for themselves using key building blocks of effective advocacy, along with useful tips and strategies. Topics include:
- An overview of carers rights
- Ways for carers to communicate more confidently and effectively
- Why planning is key
- How carers can deal with emotions that affect their voice
- Increasing carers’ independence and confidence
Providing Training for Carers
If you are looking to provide training for carers, we have a range of available courses that can be delivered online or in-person.
This session looks at key strategies and tips that can support carers to get their voice heard when dealing with services, organisations or people involved with them or the person they care for. Topics include:
- overview of your rights

This session takes a deeper look into carer rights. Topics include:
- financial rights & support
- workplace rights
- adult carer support plans, hospital discharge & SDS/direct payments
(health and social care rights) - managing someone's affairs
This session allows carers to talk about their own health and wellbeing and importantly share any positive tips and strategies they use to help them. Topics include:
- Looking at strategies to cope with difficult emotions
- loneliness and isolation
- exploring ways to look after yourself
- discovering national and local resources and support
