Join us in the Carers Bloc for Scotland Demands Better!

SATURDAY - 25th October - 11am

Assemble at Horse Wynd, outside the Scottish Parliament, Edinburgh

Look for our signs to join us and march in the Carers Bloc

Carers Scotland, alongside the National Carer Organisations, are supporting Scotland Demands Better. We will be heading up a bloc of carers marching together at the Scotland Demands Better march on Saturday 25th October.

We would love to see as many carers as possible join us and make their voices heard in the Carers Bloc.

Joining the Carers Bloc

Meet us between 10.00 - 11.00 beside the King's Gallery on Horse Wynd (opposite the Scottish Parliament).

There will be a lot of groups assembling in the area so look out for our signs to find us.

The march will begin at 11.00.

Once the march begins, you can still join the Carers Bloc at any point along the route (see below).

Sending a Message

We would love for you to make and bring your own placards, signs or banners highlighting the issues that carers face.

Alternatively will have plenty of signs to share on the day.

March Route

The Scotland Demands Better march will start at Horse Wynd and end at The Meadows via the following route:

Horse Wynd  - High Street – George IV Bridge – Forrest Road – Middle Meadow Walk – The Meadows

The route has no stairs or other physical obstacles and we will be marching at a slow to moderate pace. Assistance animals are welcome.

Find all the information about the route here on the Scotland Demands Better website. This page also contains information on rest and toilet stops.

Accessible Route

If you have restricted mobility there is the option for you to join the march where Chambers Street joins George IV Bridge.

This will considerably reduce the length of the march for you whilst ensuring you are able to take part. On this reduced route there are no steep inclines and no cobbles underfoot. If you want to join at this point you should assemble at the end of Chambers Street at 11.20am.

A printable flyer with the route map, including accessible meeting point, can be found here.

Travelling to the March

There are transport links via Train, Bus and Tram to the meeting point at Horse Wynd. The Scotland Demands Better website has information here about the travel options available.

There are also groups running busses to the march from around Scotland - find out more about this here.

Scotland Demands Better Rally

Following the march there will be a rally at The Meadows. This event will be a mini-festival with musical acts and speeches on the main stage, as well as free activities for kids and food stalls and vendors operated by social enterprises in Edinburgh.

The rally is not ticketed and you are welcome to come and go as you please throughout the afternoon.

Find the full programme for the Scotland Demands Better Rally here.
